Fibromyalgia Facts: Fibromyalgia is believed to be a hyperactivity of peripheral pain sensors in the body. The pain therefore can be diffusely located in muscles and other soft tissues. As it involves multiple sites and seems to be triggered differently in different people, it differs greatly from other types of chronic pain syndromes that are often a direct result of trauma or a specific disease entity.
