Muscle > fat: With type 2 diabetes, by far the most common kind, the body becomes resistant to insulin. By increasing our Insulin sensitivity, we can reduce our diabetes risk. So weight loss helps, and if that occurs along with building muscle, which is naturally more Insulin sensitive, risk can be reduced more. Limit simple carbs helps too. Of course we can't change our family hx, but we can do these things.
