A member asked:

How is quadriplegia diagnosed at first?

5 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

See below: Quadriplegia which means weakness or paralysis in all 4 limbs is a descriptive term only. It does not explain what caused the quadriplegia. Conditions that affect the brain and spinal cord can cause quadriplegia and this can happen from trauma, infections, autoummune conditions like multiple sclerosis and many others. The diagnosis is first made with the history and physical examination.

Quadriplegia: Quadriplegia is usually first diagnosed by a physician doing a neurologic exam. It is usually very obvious that a neurological event is happening and not hard to diagnose the quadriplegia. Sometimes the cause of it is not apparent at first, however. Hope that helps.
