See below: It depends on the level of the spinal cord injury. If the injury occurs at or above the third cervical level, the person will not have any control over their breathing and will need to be on a respirator. Below c3-4 most can breath on their own but will have very weak coughs and are prone to pneumonia.Pressure sores on th skin due to inability to feel pressure or move, bowel and bladder paralysis.
