Limits skin cuts: Prior to the safety razor, the major way to shave was to use an open blade on a standard razor. This requires some degree of skill, a very sharp blade and a high risk of skin cuts and abrasions. The safety razor limits the penetration and allows from the unskilled consumer to shave without such risks.
