A member asked:

Who would need a blood buffy coat smear test?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Many people: The buffy coat is where most of the white blood cells are seen. So if you have a potential white blood cell abnormality (infection, cancer, etc), this would be examine. It is a way to tell both the number and the shape/condition of the cells.
