A member asked:

Is spirometry used in critical care only to measure lung function?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Rarely used: Spirometry is a test of lung physiology usually performed in outpatient settings, not in an icu. I can think of a few times when we've used it to assess a patient's ability to breathe when they have neuromuscular disease, but it's not generally a tool we'd use in an icu.
