Complete lung function test is required for definite diagnosis of COPD. It is uncommon for younger patients to have this condition although it can be related with some hereditary condition.

Not all cases of COPD are due to smoking. Asthma can manifest enlarged lungs on chest xray too. Please ask your doctor to do full lung function tests and measure an alpha1 antitrypsin level.
