How does covid-19 cause death? why is it worse for elderly people and not for children?

Respiratory failure: Acute respiratory failure is the cause of death. Fluid fills the alveoli of the lungs and prevents oxygenation of the blood. Antibody production against the corona virus is not as strong as in children, and also children do not have preexisting medical conditions as elderly often have.
