Pilar Cyst: The most common scalp mass is a pilar cyst (also called an inclusion cyst or sebaceous cyst). These develop when an oil gland duct next to a hair follicle is blocked, leading to the accumulation of material under the scalp. These are easily removed under local anesthesia, if one desires. Best to see your primary care doctor for confirmation.

Benign most likely: Most lumps on the scalp are benign (lipomas or sebaceous cysts.) it can be cancer (i.e. Skin cancer), so you should still have it examined.

Sounds like a cyst: Most likely this is a benign cyst. See your friendly dermatologist and have them take a look at it.
