Possible disease: CEA is a marker for monitoring the presence of active malignancy. It cant be used for diagnosis which refers to the potential existence of cancer which has not yet been defined. As a monitoring marker progressive increase in the level at present, that is 10, means failure to respond to treatment. Should levels drop, it means the patient is responding. A single level of 10 cant be interpreted.
