More cells, less fat: Hyperplasia is a general term for increased cell mass.Ordinarily, about half of the marrow is made of fat cells, and half are the precursors of blood cells.Marrow hyperplasia describes an increase of blood-forming cells relative to fat cells. This can be seen in some marrow diseases, but also in recovery from some illnesses, and sometimes due to drugs. Like fever, its treatment depends on its cause.
