Ultrasound: A transvaginal ultrasound as early as 5 weeks (if not earlier) will demonstrate a pregnancy in the uterus. Women with a positive pregnancy test should have a transvaginal ultrasound performed ASAP exactly for the reason of detecting a potential ectopic pregnancy early on.
