A member asked:

Dr. insists on using propofol for colonoscopy/endoscopy, can i insist on light propofol? would it be wise to do so?

Several options: Most patients receive a little fentanyl and midazolam for intravenous sedation. Propofol is usually reserved for people who are anxious or did not do well with the usual sedation.Propofol for colonoscopy would usually be administered by anesthesiologist or a nurse anesthetist. I would suggest going with what your providers are comfortable with and letting them give the dose that's right for you.

Wisdom: You would be wise to rely on the education and experience of your doctor. The term "light propofol" can only mean "inadequate dose." It is a remarkably safe drug (when administered by trained personnel), and wears off very quickly.
