Listen to music!: Brushing one tooth at a time in a circular motion in front of a mirror for the length of one whole song (about 4 min) or counting slowly til ten when brushing each tooth surface. A compact head on a toothbrush will also help the focus being placed on each tooth. Ideal brushing time should be after each meal in addition to when surgery/acidic food is being consumed.

Don't skip: Kids (and adults) tend to skip around, missing some areas and over brushing others. Brush 2x/day for 2 full minutes by the clock in the same pattern each time (back-side-corner-front-corner-side-back), both outside and inside, both top and bottom. Use a pea-sized portion of toothpaste. Overcome your child's resistance to having you help until eye-hand coordination is present (about age 6-7).
