As soon as you can: You want to start brushing the teeth as soon as they erupt. As for teaching your child to use a toothbrush , you can start when they can hold the toothbrush. Many kids like to use a toothbrush even if they are too young to really clean their teeth. You can start by letting them "play" with the toothbrush while you continue to brush their teeth until they have the manual desterity to do it alone.

I agree: I agree with dr elzako. I would add that your child should start seeing a pediatric dental specialist at age 1 for the same reasons that your child sees a pediatrician, rather than a gp. The pedodontist can asses growth and development and help you share in your child's oral hygiene for the best result. The pedodontist will also give you anti-cavity nutrition advice and monitor fluorides.
