I have been prescribed omeprazole for gastritis related to nsaid use, i can't tolerate the omeprazole does the use of antacids treat gastritis??

PPIs work best: Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) like omeprazole have proven benefit in protecting the stomach from NSAID ulcers, though with chronic use they become less effective. If you cannot tolerate omeprazole, you may try esomepraole. Do discuss with your physician. Hope that helps.

Maybe: It was a standard practice when the early drugs for ulcers and gastritis were not prescription, to try a week of intensive antacid therapy: 30 cc of a liquid antacid, 30 minutes before each meal and 60 minutes after meals, and before bedtime. This was done for 7 days. If there was no improvement, then a trial of px strength meds was done for a month, if no better, scope done.
