Licensed psych-: ologists (PhD, EdD, or PsyD) are trained and licensed to diagnose and treat mental illness and other psychological disordeers. Psychotherapist is a broad term for trained professionals who do therapy. Their scope of practice is more narrow unless they are also licensed as a clinical or counseling psychologist.
