I had a root canal a month ago and my tooth is still tender. how long does it take for the tenderness to go away?

Tenderness: It is not uncommon for the tooth to be tender after root canal completion, especially if you had a severe infection in the bone... it takes time for the tissues to heal. But after a month, if the tooth is not feeling better, it would be prudent to have your dentist re-evaluate the treatment. The infection may not have resolved.

See an endodontist: Oral infections such as certain chronic abscess or cracked, fractured teeth can often be difficult to diagnose and treat. In addition to dental school, endodontists receive 2-3 more years of advanced education in this kind of diagnosis and treatment. That’s why you should see an endodontist for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Depends: Pain is a function of many things and depends on the host's response to those things. These may include but not limited to the elimination of the causative agent, treatment, ability to heal, ect. Normal inflammation subsides on average in 7-14 days in a healthy individual. It is impossible for me to determine what is delaying your improvement without additional information, see you DDS for help
