Croup: what you are describing is croup. If your child is not having any breath of difficulty that you don't see the chest rising up and down, or having his oxygen level below 90, many times the ER will send you home. Use humidifier, or steam shower before going to bed. Sometimes, we give decadron, (dexamethasone) either liquid or an injection to decrease the swelling from croup
