Follow directions: Depending upon the formulation (there can be several) use every four to six hours and hold in your mouth for about a minute or two. Depending upon the specific formulation it is either swallowed or spit out. Try not to eat or drink for about 30 to 45 minutes afterwards.

As prescribed: It really depends on your dentists directions. But with the magic mouthwash that i prescribe, the directions are to shake bottle well, swish in mouth for 1-2 minutes, then swallow. This should be done every 4 to 6 hours.
