? risk of what ?: Humans require vitamin D for good health, but there is an appropriate amount. Too much can create problems as can too little.There is an appropriate amount of vitamin D in all formulas.Your doc likely referred to not needing an extra supplement.

Infant needs 400u VD: Current RDA for infants is 400 IU of Vitamin D daily. Formulas have Vit D added, and if your child is getting an average of 32 oz of formula daily, then he should be getting adequate amount of Vit D, esp if there is occasional brief sun exposure as well. I suggest supplementation after age one, the age when toddlers frequently drink less milk, or if you live in a cloudy northern state.
