A member asked:

Cervix, uterus, biopsy - mild to moderate dysplasia ( hgsil, cin - i / ii ) what does that mean?

Exposure to HPV: This means that you contracted the human papilloma virus via sexual intercourse likely within the last 2 years; it will likely heal on its own, but you want to get repeat pap smears in shorter time intervals until then. Being a cigarette smoker increases chances of this progressing to CIN III. Women with this condition need to be closely followed by a gynecologist.

Abnormal cells/Cervx: Hello, When we talk about dysplasia we are describing how much of the biopsy is abnormal. If the doctors are looking at the tissue from top to bottom and 1/3 or less is abnormal than we call this mild dysplasia or CIN I. If we are seeing 2/3 of the specimen under the microscope as abnormal then we are describing moderate dysplasia. Neither one of these is cancer and is easily treated.
