Try lotion: Warm water and soap remove the oils in your skin. This may lead to red chapped skin. In some, this can be quite severe and is called dyshidrotic eczema. Things that can help: Avoid getting soap on your hands, wear kitchen gloves when washing, apply hand lotion after washing.
