Surgery: Often swelling will occur below the area that surgery was performed.

ACL SURGERY/DVT: Any knee and hip surgery always carries an increased rink to develop DVT. Edema following knee surgery is very common. If worried about DVT then a venous duplex ultrasound of the extremity should be done as this is the gold standard to make a diagnosis of DVT between the groin and lower calf.
