Hard to say: Sometimes, with time and/or therapy, surgery can be avoided. If you keep doing exercises and don't reinjuer it, often you can be symptom free for years. Sometimes, though, it can act up without warning. If it keeps giving you trouble or acts up too often, then surgery may be a good choice. Discuss options with your orthopedist.
