A member asked:

My 7 mt has high fever in his head. his temp via temple or ear reads 101.2, but rectal reads 98.7 and his body is cool, but head is blazing.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Need more info: Besides his face feeling hot, is he acting ill? Is the color of the body and extremities normal vs mottled or cool and clammy? Rectal temperature is the standard but it takes a while to get a stable number on the thermometer. Recheck if he is ill. Temporal and ear thermometers are close but not as accurate, and a baby that has been crying or overdressed will look flushed and face may feel hot
