Periosteal hematoma: If you had some local blunt trauma to your shin, the periosteal coating that surrounds the bone ("hot dog casing") is injured. As it is very vascular, it will bleed and can bulge and create a lump or hematoma. If it does not subside over the course of days to weeks, you should be evaluated
