Hematoma residual: Likely the hit to the shin resulted in a hematoma, or collection of blood under the skin over the bone. These collections of blood clot up and heal but can leave scars, in the forms of lumps under the skin. Sometimes they can calcify. In most cases, the lump is inconsequential. In time with gentle deep circular massage, the lump can recess.

Shin Bruise: These bruises to the shin are normally not bone, but dried fluid, scar, and blood. It is important to massage them with an ice cube for 5-10 minutes twice daily to help break down. Use a circular motion while massaging. Get referred to a pt for ultrasound if not responding. Never do anything that hurts. Get an xray if it starts to hurt, or the pt wants before treatment. I have seen several cracks.
