Gravity: Gravity can play a role. Just to illustrate this, it is physiologically normal for even the dependent side of the nose to become more swollen than the other when lying on that side. The fact that is has crossed the threshold of become noticeable means that something is going on in there. Could be allergies, polyps or other conditions.
