Why can i not take any high blood pressure medication without a diuretic?

You can: But the first prescribed medications in patients with Hypertension (and particularly if they are overweight or obese) is HCTZ, (hydrochlorothiazide) a very mild diuretic and a better anti hypertensive medicine

You can: Talk with your doctor about medications called ACE inhibiotors or angiotensin receptor blockers. They are equally good at treating high blood pressure and are not in the diuretic class. Hope this helps!
