A member asked:

Which drugs should be avoided by patients with pseudocholinesterase deficiency?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Succinylcholine: - depolarizing muscle relaxant used to facilitate intubation during general anesthesia. It is metabolized by this enzyme and in some people with inborn deficiency, esp. homozygous, administering of this drug (can have different brand names) will lead to prolonged muscle weakness/ paralysis ( hours instead of expected 3-6 minutes). Mivacurium is another one but is rarely used today.
