Drugs to be aware of: Pseudocholinesterase is a blood plasma enzyme that is responsible for metabolizing certain medications. The most important drug to avoid is succinylcholine --a muscle relaxant used to facilitate intubation. Use of this medication with this deficiency will result in prolonged intubation. Other drugs to avoid are numerous: mivacurium, pilocarpine, huperzine, parathion to name a few.
