Yes: If you have the genetic problem of prolonged muscle relaxation after the administering of succinylcholine you should display this on a medic alert tag and place it in all of your medical records. It is our hope that someday we will find a replacement medication for this med but we still need it occasionally in anesthetic practice. The diagnosis is made by getting a dibucaine test.
