Many things: This could be a benign growing pain, or it could be a more serious problem. Growing pains tend to be at night, more in the middle of long bones, resolve with massage and tylenol/ibuprofen. If your child has any associated daytime limp, persistent complaint, avoids activity, or any swelling or redness notable in the extremity, or fever then this needs immediate attention by your physician.
