Balanced diet: Whey protein is good but so is other protein. It is broken down into essential amino acids. The whey protein is from dairy source and is good and healthy protein. I am not sure it matters that you take this right away. Carbs are essential as they provide the sugar to run the engine. Even if you eat all protein the body will break down the protein to sugars to run the engine. runners carb up

Yes: it's always good to take some carbs with protein. the carb helps your body to spare the protein in your tissues as you exercise and not convert good tissues into fuel for your activities.
