Not necessarily: Some folks have large indentations, or crypts in the tonsils that can collect food particles, but since the tonsils are a center for disease resistance, the chances for infection are small. Using a water pic can help to remove or dislodge the food particles if it is causing bad breath

Yes: If you have pockets in your tonsils that fill with debris, they will often trap bacteria. Practice good oral hygiene and be treated when necessary. If you have recurrent strep tonsillitis , they may need removal. Follow up with your PCP and ENT. All the best.
