High but: The dosing range for amoxicillin starts at 40 mg/kg/day up to 90 mg/kg/day. Your daughter was prescribed 1600 mg/day. The high end for a child weighing just under 17 kg would be about 1530 mg. The difference is trivial . Ask your doctor why he went with the higher dose. He likely has a good reason.

Normal for ear infec: The most common cause of ear infections statistically is a pneumococcus. The gradual emergence of resistance in this germ has led to a higher dose range to kill partially resistant germs. This is normal dosing for an ear infection but would be high for a urinary tract infection.
