Ankle Arthritis: Approximately 32% of patients have chronic complaints of pain, swelling, or recurrent sprains after ankle sprains. In your case, it could be a type of ankle arthritis. This could be degenerative changes to the cartilage of your ankle that include osteochondral lesions (OCD) which are commonly seen after ankle sprains. Ligament tears are also seen in ankle sprains. You need xrays to help diagnose.
