Which type of x-ray: Depending on the type of x-ray performed, is what can be visualized. For example, a periapical radiograph allows the dentist to see the tooth and any pathology surrounding that area. A full mouth series of radiographs is diagnostic for caries and periodontal disease. A panoramic x-ray can visualize impactions of teeth and other pathology. A dental-scan is used for the placement of implants.
