Depends: the cervix usually effaces (thins out) earlier in second pregnancies and loss of the 'plug' can occur earlier and over weeks and so be less obvious. it is not an important sign. breaking the water or bleeding or cramping or a combination of these things are the more important signs to watch for and report.
