Sometimes a clot: in the leg may look like that or cellulitis which is infection can be like that. either way he needs to see a doctor

Leg swelling: Waking up to swelling and discoloration in the leg could be a sign of an infection. I recommend getting seen right away for an exam and to get the proper diagnosis and treatment plan! Best wishes!
