A member asked:

I had brostrom ankle surgery 3 weeks ago. as long as the effected leg is elevated it's ok. when i stand swelling is bad and toes turn purple. normal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It depends: Swelling for some time is very normal and common. Persistent swelling or swelling that doesnt respond to elevation should be evaluated as it could be a blood clot (DVT). An ultrasound would be necessary to rule out a blood clot.
