A bruise or worse...: Purple color may mean a bruise or bleeding under the skin. A sore muscle can be some bleeding from broken muscle fibers inside the muscle (called a muscle strain). If a person bleeds easily, there can be a hematoma in the muscle. If there are risk factors for a blood clot in the leg, such as recent surgery, injury, taking ocp's, sitting for several hours, etc..., the E.R. Or a doctor should check.
