Most likely...: It is most likely a torn muscle which can hurt a lot, however if pain is too extreme and/or persistent it would be good to be seen to see your doctor ASAP for evaluation and make sure this is the problem and nothing more serious than that.

Rib fracture: After menopause, women are at increased risk of osteoporosis which can cause bones to be broken more easily. What you describe could be due to a rib fracture. Have you had a bone density scan? Do you know if you have osteopenia or osteoporosis. If you are still having pain, especially if the pain is getting worse, you should be evaluated and perhaps have an xray.

Pain: You probably pulled a muscle in your chest. Try a heating pad and Ibuprofen or Naprosyn (naproxen). Rest will also help
