It may take a few: days for the antibiotic to effect her fever.Take tylenol (acetaminophen) for fever and stay well hydrated.Notify her doc if persists.

Yes.: Would not expect fever to resolve quickly with this. If she feels poorly with the fever she can take acetaminophen or a non steroidal agent unless contraindicated.

Probably: Three hours is too short a time to expect results from antibiotics taken by mouth. Fevers are not uncommon in diverticulitis. If the fever is not making your wife very uncomfortable, then she should just drink lots of fluids to avoid dehydration. Fever is a natural protective mechanism of the body that helps fight infection. However, if she is uncomfortable, she should take Tylenol (acetaminophen).

Diverticulits: Antibiotics may control bacteria in the blood system but not may not prevent coming from abscess to blood system which may cause temperature elevation. One time elevation of temperature may not dangerous sign without worsening of the abdominal pain. If the pain comes back and getting worse, you'd better take her to doctor or emergency room.

Tic Tic Toc Toc: Antibiotics don't work that fast!! She may feel a little worse before getting better but if she's not feeling at least a little better 24-48 hours after the first dose of antibiotic, or getting really worse by then, call your own doctor for advice. There's a lot to consider and the doctor is best qualified for that, after this initial "test run" of outpatient treatment.
