Kidney Donation: One amazing thing about kidneys is the ability to survive and thrive with just one. If your mother is healthy (no high blood pressure or significant chronic disease and no kidney disease), she would be a good candidate for kidney donation. There is no evidence that donating a kidney causes an increase risk of renal disease or problems in most donors. So yes, its fair to ask her.
