Hi dr my mom of 88 years old fairly strong woman still independant her dr recommends dialysis soon but with a weak heart and poor kidney function.does the gfr go up considerably once on dialysis and would it help release some stress on her heart ?

Possibly: Dialysis if tolerated would allow more precise control of fluid status to allow heart to work more efficiently and to clear toxins from blood to protect her whole body. Dialysis heart: The dialysis will relieve the excess fluid stress on her heart. Discuss with her team. GFR does not often improve. Depending on cause of renal failure.
