Swollen lip: unlikely related to dental issue. It could be a local reaction from the Orajel? If it wasn't helping, stop using it. Hope the dentist figures it out... Best of luck!

Swollen lip: May have caused by the Orajel. If he continues to complain have him rechecked. The pain maybe below the gum line and he may require a dental XR. All the best sorting this out.

Upper or lower pain?: If the trigger of the pain can't be found dentally, if it is an upper posterior pain, it could be sinus related. Really hard to tell without an x-ray and exam...could be teeth, gums, both, etc. Get to another dentist, if need be, and get another opinion

Dental pain: Unfortunately these types of situations require a one on one personal examination. You listed too little information to try to even guess as to the source of pain or swelling of the lip. Ask the dentist who actually saw your son or go to another dentist for a second opinion and for children seeing a Pedodontist would be my recommendation.
