Doctors prescribe: Your doctor may prescribe as much as 50,000 units once a week and will follow your levels. This is important because too much vitamin D increases the risk of atrial fibrillation. Without such monitoring, it is considered safe to take up to 2,000 units of vitamin D3 daily. Hope this helps.

The medical: provider who ordered the vitamin D level should be able to prescribe Vitamin D for you. Higher doses than OTC products. Take care.

Vitamin D: The easiest way to correct vitamin D deficiency is to replace the deficiency of vitamin D by taking an oral dose of 50,000 IU of vitamin D once per week for 8 weeks. To maintain vitamin D levels, youi should take either 50,000 IU of vitamin D once or twice per month thereafter.

About: 4000 units a day. Sunlight causes the cholesterol in the skin to react and this produces very good quality vitamin D. Mostly, we don't get enough sun and the sunlight in November in the northern hemisphere isn't going to help. Tanning beds do work http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24176762 can even overdose on it.

Vit D3 10,000 IU/day: Take 10,000 IU daily for several months, and have your levels rechecked. Goal for optimum levels is 60-70 ng/dl. When your levels are up, cut back to 5,000 IU per day.
